Welcome to April, National De-stress month! Stress has been coined the “silent killer” and for a reason.
If left unchecked, it can wreck havoc on our health, causing our blood pressure to spike and potentially bringing on heart disease among a host of other diseases.
Stress is sometimes responsible for overeating and under sleeping.
So, let’s talk about finding some ways to reduce or get rid of the stress in our lives….
Here are 10 ways to help with de stressing your life!
* Decide to take control of your health and really do it.
*Make a change, big or small. Clean out a closet, donate time to a charity, give up dessert for a week. When we decide to make a change and follow through, we feel good and in control.
*Stay in the Present. Many people, according to this author live their lives constantly in the past or in the future. I was one of those people. It’s tough to stay in the present but when we don’t, we can miss out on so much.
*Be your best self coach.. give yourself a pat on the back when you’ve done something you’re proud of. Self talk can be such a positive tool to boost confidence and appreciation of our best self.
*Laugh, a lot! Watch that funny, ridiculously stupid movie and laugh till your insides hurt.
*Get Mindful... you already know this, but meditation curbs stress, period.
*Do some writing in that journal. Studies have shown that writing anything reduces stress and induces happiness, so get writing!
*Think Positively! Just makes us feel better, right?
*Do something for someone else… any random act of kindness helps others, helps ourselves.
*Go for a walk in nature, preferably with a pet. It’s amazing how getting outside makes us get in touch with ourselves. It’s easy to go outside on a beautiful day, but if it’s cloudy and cool, it’s just just as meaningful and allows our minds and bodies a break. Breathe in the air and let your mind be.
Ah, the simple life… does it exist where stress is a stranger?
So if we can resolve to accept that stress is here with us to stay, let’s accept it, live with it and make peace with it.
If we can implement some of these ways to help us help ourselves, our stress might be able to be controlled or reduced and we are on our way to better health!
Cheers and Good Feelings!
