If you love the Good Feeling Blog or love food blogs in general, you should start your own! Researching recipes is a popular activity online, and sharing meals from your own kitchen will help others know what’s great to make for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. No matter your food niche, you can easily setup a blog just like ours! Some links below are affiliate.
Hosting
The first thing you need to do is choose the right host. We started our blog with Siteground, so it’s the one we recommend to you. Siteground has overwhelmingly positive reviews and we ourselves have had a great experience with them!
When you’re ready to get started, visit Siteground.com and click the WordPress Services option in the top navigation. Then, click Learn More for WordPress Hosting.
Afterward, select the Startup Plan. It’s the cheapest and fits best for new bloggers (plus, you can always upgrade later if needed).
Once you choose your plan, you’ll need to register a domain name. If you already have one from somewhere else, choose the I already have a Domain option. If you don’t have one, all you need to do is type it into the domain field!
If the domain you want is available, congrats! If not, try to make a slight alteration or think of something totally different. Eventually, you will find the perfect name that’s free! Once you move on from this step, you’ll be taken to the account setup and payment page. Fill out all required information and leave any options as they are (a hosting plan of 12 months and SG Site Scanner are great for getting you started).
The following information comes straight from Siteground.
Next, log into your new account. You’ll now see a popup asking if you want to start a new website on your account. Select that option and click on the WordPress button.
A new section will appear where you can enter the login information for your new WordPress application. Once you are ready, click on the Confirm button.
Next, choose what Enhancements you wish to add to your account – if you want to add any. When you are ready with this step – click on the Complete Setup button.
That’s it! You can now go to the front page of your site and check out the newly installed WordPress application.
Design
Now that your new WordPress site is set up, it’s time to make it look pretty! The first thing you need is the Genesis Framework, which is software that will keep your website design and/or theme protected from WordPress updates. Genesis is made by StudioPress, and if you like one of their themes, you can buy it along with Genesis.
Other places you can buy beautiful themes or get custom design are:
- Isaiah Design Co (our choice designer!)
- Restored 316 Designs
- Hello You Designs
- Etsy
Once you install Genesis and your chosen design, you are all set to write and share your recipes! If you have any questions, please contact Erika DeWitt, our designer at erika (at) isaiahdesign (dot) co.
